The tradition of hard work and dedication in the Bertolo family began when Pete Bertolo had to start working at the age of 7 after the sudden death of his father. By the age of 9, he was working full-time. At the age of 15, he and his family left Italy to start a new life in America. Pete began working at a sewing factory in New York, where, four years later, he met his wife Josephine. In 1977, Pete and Josephine started from scratch a family business in Greenville, South Carolina.
In 1997, Antonino Bertolo, son of Pete and Josephine, took over the family business. Now known as Antonino Bertolo’s Pizza & Wine Bar, the restaurant is probably best known for its New York Style pizza with a Sicilian influence. The dough is made with 100% pure olive oil along with a hint of honey, while the mozzarella cheese is still the same high-quality “Grande Cheese” used when the doors opened over 35 years ago. A perfect balance of tomato sauce and spices come together to create Antonino Bertolo’s signature sauce.
Today, Antonino Bertolo’s Pizza & Wine Bar prides itself on delivering outstanding Italian cuisine, using only the freshest and finest ingredients, as well as offering exceptional service in a family-friendly and comfortable atmosphere.
